Interactive VR Summer Training Course (80 hours)

VR is finally affordable, but it needs content. More importantly, it needs creators (i.e. YOU!), to sustain its development. And we are here to help! For the most part, there are two types of VR content you will experience. The most common kind is animated with computer-generated graphics, and then there is the kind made of real images. The latter is cinematic VR, and is made using cameras, either captured with rigs made of mounted filming units or actual 360 cameras.

This training course aims to provide students hands-on training to successfully create an interactive VR experience that showcases cinematic VR content and interactive design created by students.

The course shall train students on three main technical features:

  • Cinematic VR content production
(including: 360° VR videos, 360° VR stills, graphics & effects)

  • Interactive VR design
(including: User Interface & User Experience)

  • Basic Concepts of VR App Development with Unity

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The training course shall explain to students the basic concepts and prerequisites of developing and designing an interactive VR experience, and introduce students to the basic workflow of creating an interactive VR experience from the get-go.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Understand Aspects of VR Design

  • Understand the Workflow of Production Planning

  • Understand Aspects of Creative Scriptwriting

  • Learn the Basics of 360° VR Video Production

  • Learn the Basics of 360° VR Video Editing (Final Cut Pro)

  • Learn the Basics of Graphic Creation (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator)

  • Understand Concepts of Programming and VR App Development

DELIVERABLE:

The training course shall guide the students to design, create and complete an interactive VR experience that showcases different aspects of the local community, using video and graphic content designed and produced by the students.

The interactive VR experience shall be deployed on a VR-supported, Window-based PC as a standalone application and can be interactively experienced with the use of HTC Vive.
